How to Rock Movember

How to Rock Movember: A Ladies' Guide

First, be cute.  Now you can be born cute, or you can have cuteness thrust upon you.  But I don't know that one can achieve cuteness, at least not without a seed of proto-cute to cultivate.

Second, the 'stash.  All men have to do is stop shaving their upper lips.  But, being a lady, I need to supplement nature.  Hence the invention of liquid eyeliner.

I went with a pencil mustache and soul patch.  It's so 5 years ago, but this was...5 years ago!  What a fun Halloween costume: I actually fooled some friends (from behind) into asking "Who's the new boy?"

The second attempt, at New Year's, was more dramatic.  I still pull it off, but going Handlebar would be over the top.  It's good to know one's limits.

A Conversation (only in London)

Sitting and reading on our hotel beds:

Mom: "Do you know what people are saying when they say bollocks?!?"
Me: (can I say balls to my mom?) "...Yes, it means testicle."

I then informed her that fanny has a very different meaning than in US English.  It was an interesting evening!

April Fools

My favorite April Fool's joke was this line of kitten gear from REI:

Their ad department had fun with this one!

Microsoft tried to get in on the fun with Bing, but bitterness bogged them down.  Why so angry, Bing?  Is MS forcing you to use Internet Explorer? lol  /nerd joke

Bing: We decided to go back to basics, to the dawn of the Internet, to reimagine Bing with more of a 1997, dial-up sensibility...but the main goal here is just to learn more about how our world would look if we hadn’t evolved.

Yeah, cause Bing using Google's search results as their own makes them the search engine leader :p

My Yarn Harlot Moment

The Yarn Harlot, aka Stephanie Pearl-McPhee, is a humorous knitting author/blogger.  In (at least) one of her books she writes about the urge to inspect stranger's knits in public.  I laughed when reading but foolishly thought my knit stalking was safely confined to Knit Night.

Yesterday I was riding the bus and noticed a man wearing a lovely hat.  It was obviously hand knit--the yarn, the fit, the decreases at the top.  It may well have been homespun, too.  I almost got up, sat down next to him, and said "I like your hat."  Which, ideally, would lead him to tell me the story of said hat.  I was also grieving for my lost hat so it was quite emotional in my adorable little head ;)

Luckily for him, he exited the bus just as my urge to accost him was becoming overwhelming.  It was a beautiful hat, though.  He wasn't bad looking either, hee hee.

Crazy

Some advice: best not to tell your doctor "that makes me crazy."   For me it's equivalent to it drives me crazy.  For my doctor, not so much.  He looked into my eyes appraisingly and was concerned.  Oops.  At least I can put it in my blog! lol

On a sewing-related note: am I the only person who avoids graphic-heavy sites?  I can't read Sew Weekly without it bogging down my computer, and the STC site did the same.  It's typically Flash photos or animation in the sides, distractions to me, which I'd rather disable.

A Funny

I have a new top and added twill tape waist ties, and last time I wore it they were stiff.  Only the bottom half of each, mind, and I couldn't think what had caused this.  Stain spray? no.  It had been hanging in the closet, so I had no idea.

Then I'm in the bathroom on Sat, happen to look over, and there's my cat chewing on the ties!  No wonder they're stiff and funky feeling!  I rinsed them off, washed them a little, but cat spit apparently works better than starch.  At least I solved the mystery ;)
Ella, caught in the act!

Fun Friday

This made me laugh and I had to share.  Have a great weekend everyone!  There's some glue basting calling my name, in between time with friends :)

Must Share!

Read this on Shoveling Ferrit's site:

A man in a ghillie suit tried to break into a Portland, OR museum.  So far no evidence has been found that explains what he was thinking ;)
